Christa Ludwig (natural March 16, 1928) is a distinguished German mezzo-soprano, known both for her opera performances and her singing of Lieder. Her career spanned from either a late 1940s until the early 1990s.

Ludwig when natural around Berlin to a musical personal; her father, Anton Ludwig, was a tenor & an operatic administrator, her mother, a mezzo-soprano Eugenie Besalla-Ludwig world health organization sang the Aachen Opera during Herbert von Karajan's period when conductor. Ludwig's number 1 voice teacher was her mother.

Ludwig processed her debut around 1946 at the age of Xviii when Orlovsky within Die Fledermaus at Frankfurt, where she sang until 1952. She was the member of the Darmstadt Oper from 1952 to 1954, then sang a 1954–1955 season at the Staatsoper Hannover. She joined a Vienna State Opera in 1955, where she became one of its chief creative person & was appointed Kammersängerwithin in 1962 and performed with a company for further than 30 years. Around 1954, Ludwig manufactured her debut at a Salzburg Festival as Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro, and appeared there regularly until 1981. Ludwig processed her debut when Brangäne around Tristan und Isolde at the Bayreuth Festival in 1966.

Ludwig mass produced her American debut at the Lyric Opera of Chicago as Dorabella in Così fan tutte in 1959. That equivalent month, she manufactured her debut at a Metropolitan Opera in as Cherubino, & afterwards returned there regularly until 1990. Ludwig 1st appeared at a Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in 1969 as Amneris in Aida.

When Ludwig's voice matured, she expanded her repertoire from either lyric & spinto mezzo-roles to striking roles. Her immense repertory at length grew to encompass Carmen, the Marschallin (Der Rosenkavalier), Ulrica (Un Ballo in Maschera), Beethoven's Leonore (Fidelio), Monteverdi's Octavia (''L'Incoronazione di Poppea), Dido (Les Troyens), Kundry (Parsifal), Klytemnestra (Elektra'') and contemporary roles by von Einem and Orff. She besides ventured briefly into a soprano repertory with performances of Verdi's Lady Macbeth (Macbeth) and Strauss's Dyer's Wife (Die Frau Ohne Schatten).

Additionally to her opera performances, Ludwig regularly gave recitals of Lieder and the solist sustaining orchestras. Her performances of Schubert, Schumann, Brahms, Wolf, Mahler and Strauss are much admired. She likewise sang Bach and performed and recorded virtually all of his major vocal works.

From either 1957 to 1970, Ludwig was married to the bass-baritone Walter Berry; the few performed together oftentimes. Around 1972, she married the French stage-manager Jean-Emile Deiber.

Inside 1993–1994, Ludwig gave a series of farewell recitals inside several cities & mass produced her farewell appearance at a Met singing Fricka within Die Walküre.

Within 1994, Ludwig published the memoir, ...und ich wäre and then gern Primadonna geworden.
